So hosts that offer 100% money back for any month that uptime drops below 99.9% (like we do), don’t care that your site is down? Your stereotyping is hurtful, especially to those of us that work hard to make sure sites are up 100% of the time. Some of us do care. There are literally THOUSANDS of hosts with a 99.9% service level guarantee. So yes, we do lose money if downtime occurs. Fortunately, we’ve managed to keep things above the 99.9% mark for as long as we’ve been open.

“When it comes to high traffic sites”
There’s your problem. You’re probably trying to use shared hosting (made for low traffic sites) instead of a vps or dedicated server (for high traffic sites). The problem is you, not the webhost.

@MrNthDegree thank you for the your insight. It’s refreshing to have an educated reply on this topic. As for our current site, it’s just a “placeholder” of sorts. We do our own hosting now, so all these issues are really not an issue with us any longer. But again, thank you for a very educated reply.

@rivernet1: Also, shared hosts screw people over because they oversell on bandwidth and server processing space to the point where heavy load from more than 3 or 4 sites causes everyone slight issues.
In addition, as webhost staff are generally not MySQL specialists and a lot of software depends on it, you can often be screwed over in terms of database corruption if data integrity is somewhat critical (in any business use) – as backups don’t save data between last backup and corruption……

@rivernet1: Shared webhosting does suck. Imagine you use depreciated PHP features (e.g. register globals or rely on safe mode), those could be removed if they upgrade – and they just don’t care! Even worse, if you use Python for scripting; say they change version without allowing you to access the old version and informting you ahead of time – your site is screwed.
Judging by the site listed on your channel, you’re not the same type of customer that Chris Pirillo is. Keep in mind

How DARE you say – hosts don’t care if your site is down? Are you just that stupid? I find it aggravating that you sling mud at hosts, yet you promote and accept advertisements from same. Of course you really don’t care since they cut you a check. You’ve been with 10 hosts? We’ve been with 1 since 1990. Why would that be Chris? Maybe because YOU suck as a customer?

it’s simple, just pay for a reasonable speed/bandwidth internet connection, configure your router to allow the services you need, load up a server on your home network using linux or mac or windows, whichever you like best and run from there, i do and i think it’s the best way to do it, you’re allready paying for your home internet connection so why not use it to do what you need, you then need to pay for a domain name but same difference

Hey I’ve seen a Web Hosting Site launched recently and for the first couple of months there doing a £2 a year deal, I think they also have this in $ and Euros. Anyways the site is spudmonkeehosting.info if you want to check it out, I use them to host my site and at the minute I’ve had no problems

@RecGuitar The promotional price will be for your entire bill. FatCow accepts their payments in 12 month blocks, 24 month blocks, and 36 month blocks. They are really a good web host and it is worth every penny. Currently a full year of web hosting is $56.04 with my link in the description!
